Introduction to a Disney Lover

Hello everyone! My name is Morgan Humphrey. I am a junior computer science major from Fort Wort, Texas. One thing that you need to know about me is my love of Disney! (If you read my last post you will have gotten a little taste for how I feel about Disney.) I love Disney as a company, but I really enjoy the parks the most! The only park I have been to so far is Disney World.
Me at Disney World during
my latest trip.

However, my ultimate goal is to be able to visit all of the Disney parks around the world. There is a total of six parks all across the world, so it will take me a long time before I am able to fulfill my goal. Once I graduate from OU I am not really sure what I would like to do with my major. My favorite part of programming so far would have to be the interface aspect. I have really enjoyed the projects where we must create the interface that the user uses to navigate the program. I enjoy having something physical to look at once I run the program. I think that I would enjoy creating mobile apps. I also have an interest in robotics, so I would love to learn how I can use my programming knowledge to work with robots. If I had to shoot for the stars with my career goals, I would have to say that I would love to work with the animatronics at the Disney Parks. I think it would be such a fun job to have, and I would love to be able to work behind the scenes of my favorite rides at the parks. Now a little bit about my family! My parents have been married 29 years and I have three siblings. My oldest sister Anna is 27 years old. She graduated from OU with an environmental engineering degree. My second oldest sister Caitlin is 24 years old. She also graduated from OU with an advertising major. I also have a twin brother Taylor who is 12 minutes younger than me. We are both 21 years old. He is also here at OU and is also a computer science major. I guess we have a hard time not doing the same things.

  1. That's so cool that you have a twin who's doing the same thing as you! I've always wondered what that would be like. Programming is pretty awesome! I took a few programming classes before I realized it wasn't for me and the interface part was pretty fun to make. It's definitely nice having easy to see feedback to find bugs. I also love Disney and Disney movies and everything! I've only ever been to the park in Florida (can never remember whether that's Disney World or Disney Land) but it was amazing. I had no idea they had other parks around the world either!

  2. Oh hey another CS Major yay! It's good that you're interested in UI and robotics, because there are a lot of jobs open for that kind of stuff (especially UI!) Working with the animatronics at Disney parks would be so interesting, considering how lifelike they all move (have you seen the Frozen animatronics? Insane.) Anyways, nice to meet you and good luck with your goal of working at Disney!

  3. Oh wow, what an OU family, Morgan: that is so cool! And I really like the idea of visiting the parks across the world. The world is such a big place: it is good to have a way to organize your pilgrimage! And if you are interested in robotics, maybe you can use this class to explore the myths and legends of robots and other artificial lifeforms: it goes all the way back to ancient Greece, where the engineer of the gods, Hephaestus, built some golden robots to help out around his workshop! The idea of mechanical beings might even give you some ideas for what you could really build someday with the science of robotics! :-)

  4. How fun! My favorite place is Disney World as well. I love your enthusiasm for Disney, and I think it would be amazing to go to every Disney park. It would also be amazing to work for Disney, and I wouldn't give up on that dream. It would be incredible to say you've helped create a ride (or rides) at Disney World. It's very cool that you have a twin who loves the same thing you do (or maybe infuriating, I'm not sure). I've always wanted a twin. You seem like a cool person and I'm excited to read your story.

  5. Morgan,
Although I am not a huge Disney fan, I absolutely love the Disney parks and rides. That is awesome that you are a computer science major as well and that you would maybe want to work with Disney in the future. Additionally, you seem to have a big family like me as well. My brother and sister are twins as well, and I've always wanted to be a twin.

  6. Morgan,
I think it's great that you love Disney so much! I actually grew up with several girls who loved Disney a lot, too! In addition, some of my friends have even done the Disney program where they go to Disney World for a semester and work in various aspects of the park, including getting to dress up as some of the disney characters. But I think visiting all the parks sounds like a great goal, and it would be very fulfilling, plus! you'd be an expert on Disney parks. Also, I think it's funny that you and your twin brother decided to major in the same field. It was nice to meet you!

  7. Hey Morgan! I went to Disney World when I was kid (about 10 years old) and I loved it! I'm glad I went when I was kid, because I didn't have to pay for anything! Haha We lost my little brother, Dakota, there and Goofy found him and brought him back to us. I've always thought about the Disney theme parks as a place for kids to enjoy, but is it fun for adults too? I think it's cool that you're a computer science major. I bought an electronics book a couple years back and read that bad boy cover to cover. I made a slew of electronic devices during my free time and before I stopped, because of time constraints, I had put together this really cool TV-B-GONE device that you could use to turn people's TV's off. Mischievous, I know, but really cool. If you were ever in the Union and the TV randomly went off, that was pretty me... Lol. But, I'll be on the lookout for your work if you get into the app-making business!

  8. Hey Morgan!
That's awesome that you've had the opportunity to go to Disney World! I actually haven't been to any Disney Parks, but I'd very much like to go! Also, I'm from Mckinney area, so it's super cool that you are from the same area (ish). I go to Fort Worth quite often, especially when they have the FWSSR.
I find it so cool that your family all went/go to OU! Talk about a family of alumni's.
Your dream job would be amazing, especially since that's what you really love and want to do.
Good luck to you in your future!

  9. Hey Morgan, it's nice to meet you! I live near Fort Worth too! Have you heard of Burleson? It's really cool how you want to apply your major to your passion for Disney. I think it would be awesome to work there, regardless of the type of job. For what it's worth, I think you should shoot for the stars and do something that you're really passionate about and enjoy doing. It seems like your whole family loves OU, which is never a bad thing! Nice to meet you!

  10. Hi Morgan,
I’m not sure if your major applies to this, but Disney offers internship opportunities over the summer or during the semester you should really look into! You basically work for them and learn all the tips and tricks to the park! I looked into it applying for this last year, but life just got in the way. Seriously, look into this!

  11. Morgan, it is great to meet you. That is awesome that you are so interested in computer science and robotics. I have done a little coding on VBA and C++ (I know those are pretty basic lol) and was not very good at it. I have such a respect for people who are able to be so efficient at it. It would be awesome if you were able to work for Disney someday. I have been to Disney World a few times but that is it. The parks are a great time and I definitely want to go to more of them. Well good luck this semester and on your future career!

  12. I am convinced at this point that Disney can do no wrong and your love of the company makes perfect sense. I myself have never been to any of the parks before, but have heard nothing but good things, even from those who do not generally care for amusement parks. Also, I really like what you have done with your blog page, especially the astronomy images that you have tied in as your background.

  13. Howdy, Morgan!

Disney does churn out some quality pictures, don't they? What're some of your favorites of their work? I'm mainly a fan of their productions in conjunction with Pixar Animation Studios, like Toy Story and The Incredibles. I've also been to a Disney park, though I can't recall if it was World or Land...

Programming is something I'm certain I could understand, but am not entirely certain I can do for a living; while I understand stuff like HTML, CSS, and a little JavaScript, it feels too demanding to really have fun doing on a daily basis, especially for a career. It must be rather exhausting to major in something like that, so best of luck to ya!

  14. Hi Morgan!

Wow, computer science! That seems like a very rigorous major! I also love Disney! I went to Disney World for my high school senior trip, and I have wanted to go back ever since. Working for Disney would be such a cool job, and I could definitely see a lot of opportunities for you with a computer science background!

  15. Hey Morgan!

I am a huge Disney fan as well! I am a big fan of their animated movies! We have always found them to be family events where we all gather and go to the movies together. I know it may seem a bit strange, but it's something that we really enjoy. I have only been to Disney World once and honestly it was so long ago that I barely even remember it. I do hope that I can go again sometime soon though! It was great meeting you, and I wish you good luck for the rest of the semester!

  16. Hi Morgan! It is so nice to meet you! I also love Disney and I have been to Disney World 6 times. I guess being a cheerleader comes in handy when there are always competitions in Orlando on Disney property. My favorite Disney park is probably Magic Kingdom. I think it's so cool that you're a twin! I've always wondered what it would be like having a twin. Good luck figuring out what you would like to do with your degree!

  17. I love Disney World so much! I was lucky enough to go to the Hong Kong Disney land! I was really exciting and one of my favorite part is the subway you have to take to get into the park! You get to see so much of the park! If I remember correctly there is a lift that connects to parts of the park or it connect another park to Disney land called Ocean park. Good luck! And shoot for the stars! I believe your dream is worth it and I think you can do it!

  18. Girl, I am in love with Disney as a company as well. I am a PR senior and I recently applied for a position in their communication and event office. I have also only visited Disney World and I am that single adult in the movie theater watching the latest Disney movie! Working behind the scenes at Disney sounds amazing, I would technically be working behind the scenes as well just in a different sense. I hope you get to travel to all the parks! Good luck!

  19. Wow, you have so many cool interests! And it is also really cool that you could find a way to use your interests for a job with Disney. I have a friend who works at Disney World, and she absolutely loves it there! Though I've never been to a Disney park, I would love to visit all of the different ones around the world. I would be fascinated to see how each one is built and operates based on the country it is in! I also love that you are an OU family!

  20. Hi Morgan. It's nice to meet you. I'd really love to go to the Disney parks too but I doubt that will happen. I'm more interested in just traveling the world with my husband and hopefully future children (and my step son). My husband doesn't really care for amusement park rides and that's the part I love, so I don't have much reason to go. I hate doing rides alone... So I tend to just not go anymore. LOL.
Your major sounds pretty awesome, although I have no clue about half of what you were talking about. HAHA.
I think it's really neat that everyone in your family has went to OU. I'm the youngest of 11 kids and only one of my siblings went to OU.

  21. Morgan! I think that computer science sounds interesting and that robotics would be a great fit for you. Funny enough, that's exactly what my boyfriend wants to do. He graduates in December and is hoping to go to graduate school to get into robotics. I think your love of Disney is great-I'm running a marathon at disney at the beginning of next year and I'm very excited about it!

  22. I had no idea there were so many parks :o. I sure hope you can visit them one day! That sounds like it'd be really fun. I have heard computer science is incredibly hard, so good for you for taking on that major!

Animatronics seem complicated to work with; I'm pretty curious about their technology. That'd be a cool job to work at one of the parks! Your family sounds pretty cool :^).

  23. Hi Morgan! I agree that Disney is super amazing! Because I'm learning Japanese right now, I really want to go to Tokyo Disney. I hear it is amazing! As a professional writing major, I could never imagine doing computer science, so I think it's impressive that you actually enjoy doing it. I hope that you can achieve your dreams of working behind the scenes at Disney!

  24. It's so nice to meet another fellow Disney lover! I don't think I could ever outgrow Disney. I too would love to visit all the parks around the world. I've only been to Disney World and I love it more every time. I only have two relatives that have graduated from OU, my uncle and his daughter. Next will be me, IN TWO WEEKS, and I am beyond excited, lol. Unfortunately, my brother decided to go to OSU. It's funny that your twin brother is in the same major with you. At least you've always got a study partner though! That's a plus! Have a great rest of your time here at OU.

  25. Hi Morgan!
It is so nice to meet you. I am so sorry I am just now getting to introducing myself in week 15! What a shame because you seem so cool and I also LOVE Disney. I have not seen the new Beauty and the Beast though and it’s killing me!!! Good luck with everything after this class – you have a lot to be proud of!

  26. Morgan! You sound like a fun person and I enjoyed getting to know a little bit about you! I always wondered what it would be like to be a twin. I think it's funny that you guys are still so similar being 21 years old that you guys are even the same major at the same college! Computer science sounds really hard; my boyfriend is a computer science major at TU and every time he talks about his work, it pretty much always goes over my head. I don't think I could do it-you go girl! I also love Disney, too. How could you not?!
